They say there’s strength in numbers.
There is something about knowing that you are not the only one – that others feel the same way or can relate. Sometimes, you just need to KNOW that you are not alone.
Therapy in a group atmosphere provides a vehicle to process individual concerns and benefit from the wisdom of others. Therapy in this setting allows members to provide suggestions and demonstrate understanding. Group members also become accountability partners, helping you keep in check negative thinking and supporting you as you move forward in the pursuit of personal development.
Having the support of others is a critical piece of coping with life transitions and stressors.
And the benefits don’t stop there…
Group therapy offers multiple benefits. It promotes connection through shared experiences and allows space for differing perspectives.
Most stressors and experiences have an interpersonal component, so group is the perfect opportunity to practice interpersonal skills.
Group work is a powerful tool for personal growth and change. Through sharing common goals and life experiences, you are reminded that you are not alone, and by offering your unique perspective – you contribute to the healing of others as you heal yourself.
Here’s what it looks like…
All groups and book club meet via Zoom and last an hour to an hour and a half.
Group size is limited to eight people, and you are not expected to share unless you want. All members agree to respect each other’s experiences, differences, and beliefs while upholding confidentiality.
We offer a variety of groups…
Retirement
While retirement is ideally a reward for many years of hard work, it can also trigger symptoms of anxiety and depression. Retirement looks different for everyone; however, there is a significant psychological impact. Many will miss the sense of identity, purpose, and structure that came with working. Connecting with like-minded individuals helps to ease the stress of such a significant transition and normalizes confusion, sadness, and anger often experienced.
Divorce
Divorce is a significant life transition. Joining a support group can be a powerful experience as you grow through your heartbreak and determine who you are. Sometimes, it is difficult to talk with family and friends when faced with divorce. Group members find support in one another through their shared circumstances. Group work will help you move forward through feelings of isolation, loneliness, resentment, anger, and confusion.
Law Enforcement
Policing is unlike any other profession – characterized by rotating time demands, long shifts, and challenging interactions with the community and those in a state of crisis. Exposure to high stress and the prospect that responding to a call for service may become volatile, dangerous, or life-threatening can take a toll on the overall health and wellbeing of an officer. Joining a support group for those who understand you will provide you with the opportunity to be supported and support others.
Men
We’ve all heard that “big boys don’t cry”; however, that couldn’t be further from the truth. All people are hard-wired for connection; however, modern-day society trends toward isolation. This group is for men to have a place to support each other and be supported as they navigate various life stressors/challenges with the goal of mental health and personal development in mind.
Mind-body skills
These groups are facilitated according to the guidelines set forth by the Center for Mind-Body Medicine.
These safe and supportive small groups gently set you on your way to self-discovery. They’re about reducing stress and creating optimal health.
You’ll learn a series of powerful, effective, research-based healing tools for exploring your life’s changes, stresses, and health habits.
Book Club
If you love to read and would like the opportunity to discuss your readings and interests with like-minded individuals, then welcome to the club! Each month, a different book is selected. As we read, we connect and grow.
We’ll explore all things related to personal growth, including the complex inner workings of human nature, thoughts, feelings, emotions, connections, and personal histories.
Group discussions are limited to ten participants and are held on Zoom.
Please note that therapeutic book club is NOT therapy, but it can be a complement to individual therapy.
Unearth and Exhale is focused on continuing to offer various group topics. Please click here if you are interested in attending group, and please feel free to add any suggestions.
